Maines New Nanny State Law: No Smoking in Your
Car

Maine has joined California, Arkansas, and Louisiana in an unholy foursome of freedom hating legislative nonsensery. Starting tomorrow, it will be illegal to smoke in your car while anyone under the age of 16 is present. That’s right, Maine has banned smoking in your own car. I don’t smoke, in [...]

Bailout Watch 17: Motown to Party Like a Barack
Star

The Detroit News reports that democratic presidential hopeful Barack Obama has launched a TV campaign in Michigan "accusing" his republican competitor of not supporting federal bailout bucks for Motown's hometown heroes. Damn straight. Oh wait.. "The McCain campaign said the ad was misleading, pointing to the fact that McCain now supports a loan-guarantee proposal. [...]

Body Kits - Ramping Up Your Style

Automakers are restrained from creating enormously aerodynamic vehicles with sport-tuned suspensions and powerhouse motors because they must cater to the average consumer. As a result, the tuning industry has grown up, providing consumers (tuners) with products that enhance their vehicles appearance and performance. Body kits are one of the most popular ways to [...]

E85 Boondoggle of the Day: Ethanol From Garbage
Breakthrough. In Theory.

I debated posting my blog of this story in The Daily Breeze in our E85 Boondoggle of the Day category. Who knows if BlueFire Ethanol's concentrated acid hydrolysis waste-to-ethanol technology will create commercially-viable E85 fuel near a garbage dump in Lancaster, CA? Ultimately, the fact that BlueFire sucked $40m bucks from the U.S. Department of [...]

Bailout Watch 18: The Great White Lobbyist Hunt

I'm not sure what's scarier: a lobbyist who's a Hunter S. Thompson fan, or a lobbyist who's a Hunter S. Thompson fan who thinks that bumping into Sean Penn at the Democratic National Convention and saying "Oh, you're Sean Penn" is a "gonzo" moment. In any case, Greg Martin, Director, Policy and Washington Communications uses [...]

Live online classic car auction at Barons

Barons is celebrating its 10th anniversary in style, with a British Heritage sale at Sandown Park on September 8th/9th at which, for the first time, buyers will be able to bid over the internet via www.i-bidder.com . In a contrast to the 21st technology of the online bidding process, the sale includes some charming pre-war cars, notably a very rare 1933 Aston Martin and a 1939 Salmon-Tickford bodied Rover 14 Drophead Coupe which was formerly owned by the Gaydon Collection. And one lucky Pamela - or the owner of a Porsche 956 - has the chance to pick up a personalised registration number: PAM 956.

i-bidder brings Barons? sale to buyers
The i-bidder process is simple and convenient, allowing buyers to see the lots on their home or office computer at the same time as they appear in the sale room, and make real-time bids on them.

Buyers simply register for free on www.i-bidder.com , then register for Barons? sale. They can view the lots beforehand on Barons? comprehensive website or on Barons? online catalogue on www.i-bidder.com , and can even set an audible alarm on their computer, which will sound when the lot they are interested in is about to go under the hammer. They bid and buy online at the click of a mouse. The live bids are relayed directly to the auctioneer, and an audio feed allows the bidders to hear bids from the room.

Barons? Managing Director, Laurence Sayers-Gillan, said, ?We?ve always been quick to embrace new technology - we were the first auction house to allow vendors to enter their vehicles into sales via a website - and we believe that online bidding, in real time, will become increasingly popular.

?Although many people will always prefer the atmosphere in a live saleroom, it?s not always feasible for them to be present. Bidding online, while seeing the lots on their computer screen and hearing the bids from the saleroom, is about as close as they can get to being there.?
