Historic Dream Car Draws Big Bucks

Dodge Firearrow II Following a 12-hour journey from the Scottsdale auctions to my home on Vancouver Island (of which only five hours was flight time) I was up early the next morning to catch a ferry to the BC mainland. Duty demanded that I test drive a 2007 Volvo XC90 for About.com. So I'm a little weary at the moment but looking back at the many superb auction automobiles perked me up enough to create this blog on one of two Dodge Firearrow "dream cars" that went under the hammer at Barrett-Jackson. It's so pretty I wanted to take it home and if only I'd added another dollar to the sold price of $1,100,000.00 I might have. Four Firearrows, all designed by Chrysler's Virgil Exner, were built during 1953 and 1954. The soft yellow Firebird II roadster was constructed on a shortened Dodge chassis and featured elegant European styling. According to Sam Mann, now the ex-owner, it handles beautifully and is capable of long distance touring. The retro Mille Miglia would be an ideal event if the new owner is so inclined.
