After a tremendous battle with the Escort Mk1 of Frank Cunningham and Ryland James, category two victory in Belgium finally went to the Porsche 911RS of Steven Smith and John Nichols.
The Tour of Flanders was another great event to form round seven of the 2008 Dunlop/Gambia MSA British Historic, with some challenging stages and tricky conditions when rain arrived for the final leg on Saturday.
In category one, Patrick Watts and Elgan Davies swept to a resounding victory in the Sunbeam Tiger, while in category three it was Belgian newcomer Darren Moon who scored a great win with John Stanger-Leathes on the notes in his Escort Mk2.
Category 1
It was something of a disappointment for Watts when he arrived in Belgium to find that he was the only runner in class B5, so full championship points were not available. But he got on with trying to push the rumbling Tiger as high up the overall order as he could and duly finished well inside the top 10 BHRC crews.
The Tiger ran beautifully, despite the usual concerns over brakes and Watts chucked it around in style "It?s been a good fun event," said Watts after another fine performance.
Remarkably, second in the category went to the MG Midget of James Stait and Gill Cotton after a very trouble free rally. "No problems," said James. "It's slightly nicer in the dry," he added, after taking a dominant B2 victory.
Trouble free could not describe the rally of Neil Calvert and Arlene Cookson, however, who battled through Saturday just to keep their Lotus Cortina in the rally. A catalogue of problems nearly put them OTL and concern over a failing head gasket meant they had to ease the revs back all through Sunday. Even a trip through a hedge failed to stop them, however, and B4 victory was just reward for a tough weekend.
In B1, the Singer Chamois of Gary and Jane Edgington starred on their debut in Flanders. Relishing the fact that Flanders is flat, Gary pedalled the Imp in style and took third in the category as well as B1 spoils over Mike Barratt/Jody Watson (Sunbeam Stiletto).

Add to myYahoo! One of the most significant collections of vintage light cars and motorcycles to come to the market for years was 100% sold at Bonhams? sale at the National Motor museum in Beaulieu on 13 September.
The collection of long-retired garage owner, Stafford East, was well known but had been kept out of the public eye for some time, with many of the lots having been stored away in an ivy-covered barn for the last 20 years. These rare barn-find motor cars and bikes all required restoration and re-commissioning.
Star of the collection was a historically important 1920 chain-driven GN, ?Kim II? which sold for £65,300. The car was the fastest under 1,100cc racing car in its day, with over 100 first places in its long racing history. ?Kim II? was one of three GNs in the collection, built in Wandsworth, London, which together made £184,900. The others,?Vitesse?, a 1922 GN 1,086cc Two Seater Voiturette sold for £63,100 (double the estimate), and ?Akela?, built by GN in 1922 as one of a team of cars prepared for the 200 Mile Race at Brooklands that year sold for £56,500.
The Collection also featured seven motorcycles, including a magnificent 1930 Brough Superior with sports sidecar, which sold for £58,700 ? well above the pre-sale estimate of £20,000 ? 25,000. Also included was a 1908 Swiss-built Motosacoche, a pedal assisted single-cylinder bike eligible for the prestigious Pioneer Run to Brighton, which sold for £5,175.
The annual Beaulieu Autojumble sale always attracts the crowds and this year?s results reflect strong interest across all sections of the sale, with the £1,694,000 sale total an increase on last year. An impressive 86% of all lots sold.
Top price in the sale was £65,850, for the 1931 Lagonda 2-litre Tourer, sold by Lord Berkeley. Other highlights that sold above estimate included a 1935 Riley 9hp Imp which had been in the same family ownership for the past 41 years (£59,800) and a wonderful 1916 American-LaFrance 14-Litre Roadster which sold for £53,750 (estimate £20,000 ? 25,000).

Add to myYahoo! The 2008 Hackett Beaujolais Run, in a year that Jaguar celebrates 60 years of the XK, has issued a challenge to motoring editors.
Rob Bellinger said: ?The Beaujolais Run was the brainchild of Allan Hall, a Sunday Times journalist who in 1972 issued a challenge to fellow journalists, and members of the public."
?In the early days it was all about speed and which journalists would get the Beaujolais back to their offices first. Now it is about a group of motoring enthusiasts getting to Beaujeu, near Macon by the shortest route and raising money for charities as they go.?
He added: ? We are issuing a challenge to Fleet Street and the major motoring magazines once again. We want to see as many motoring journalists competing against one another in this the sixtieth year of the XK and raising lots of money for this year's charities.?
In a fitting competitive tribute, the ?Big Cats? will compete amongst a varied and spectacular field including everything from Ferrari to Frazer-Nash.
This year?s ?Run will see a maximum of sixty vehicles compete to ?Bring Back the Beaujolais?. Famous faces and eminent motoring journalists will once again join this showcase of the unofficial motorsport calendar. Those who accept this fiercely fought challenge will battle it out on French soil, covering some of the most spectacular roads on the continent.
This ?Mad Dogs and Englishmen? event is once again full of surprises and money can?t buy experiences; from Embassy to private Chateaux and public Fete, all in the name of raising money for worthwhile causes. This year the ?Run will rest its spiritual home at Goodwood bound for the bright lights of the city.
